'Good for Roses'

My new album ‘Good for Roses’  is going to be released via the Absolute Label (Universal/Sony) on 18 April 2025, it was recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, and produced by Kris Wilkinson Hughes (My Girl The River). There is an album release show at the Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells on 19th April, followed by a UK Spring tour.

‘Good For Roses’,  is a personal one, songs about life-defining moments, good and bad mixed with songs about how I feel a lot of the time about myself and the world.  If there is one thing I am sure about now I am older, it is that out of hard times good things come. There is a line in the first track on the album, Bring me Love, ‘Shit is good for roses, we just have to hold our noses on the way’.   I wanted the title of this album to reflect the struggle and the joy.  There is a pink rose outside my kitchen window and, as the rest of the garden dies away and there is frost on the ground, it blooms. I love its resilience.”

“I wrote these 11 songs sat in my van, over the space of a year. I went to Real World Studios, my band came too: Andy Evans on guitars, John Brooker on bass, Roger Nunn on drums, Harry Whitty on keys, trumpet, trombone  and with Kris Wilkinson Hughes in the Producer’s chair we brought them to life. We brought in the fierce Aaron Catlow on the fiddle and Dan McConkey on sax and clarinet and, when my friend the wonderful Bella Collins, came for dinner one night we grabbed her for guest vocals.  Such a team effort all mixed and engineered by super talented head engineer at Real World, Katie May.”

About Me

Hello ...

I am Anna,  a London born Singer/Songwriter/ UK Artist .

My music is a blend of  Americana, folk, and country influences, described as 'Americana with a very British Twist' I recorded my first EP, An Idiots Guide to Love, in Nashville , It went to Number 5 in the UK Country Charts, My second album 'The Friday Night Club' was named after a facebook live stream I started from my front room during lockdown which went on to have 2 million views worldwide   . My  latest album, 'Good for Roses' delves into themes of love, resilience, and self-discovery, earning praise for its lyrical depth and authentic sound.

I love performing live and am currently on a Uk Tour with my fabulous band Andy Evans on guitar, Roger Nunn on drums, John Brooker on bass and Harry Whitty on keys.  Our live performances are full of foot tappers and singalongs with a little bit of heartbreak thrown in .

Thank you for being here

New Music

My latest Singles are a double A side -

The Gatekeeper

The Gatekeeper is about controlling who gets close to you. Sometimes a liberating power, sometimes lonely if you shut people out.

I wrote it sat in my van, the morning after a gig, looking out of the window at the small holding I was staying on which was a jumble of hand painted signs and fences held together with string.  Produced and re-worked by the brilliant Kris Wilkinson Hughes at Real World Studios.

Everybody Knows

A song about ‘hangxiety’. Back in the 90s we would wake up from a wild night out and not think twice about our bad behaviour the night before. But now there is too much evidence, everywhere.  This is about the moment when you cant quite remember what happened but think everyone is talking about you. We had so much fun with this in the studio.  We auditioned amongst ourselves for the speaking parts.

The Friday Night Club

"Annas voice is the perfect foil for the lyrics, blending a light sweetness with a bit of gravel when the song starts to push and pull, think somewhere between the darker tones of Roseanne Cash and the airiness of early Joni Mitchell"

'Delightfully Moving'

Fatea Magazine

"I love Anna Howie’s singing, songwriting and spirit.  She is a unique storyteller and when you combine that with gorgeous melodies it adds up to much more than 3 chords and the truth .  She has just finished her new EP here in Nashville and its excellent; showing off her UK meets Americana style with an A list of Nashville players.  Already a great live performer. I am looking forward to seeing where her new music takes her."
